Uninstalling DirectX 9
DirectX is one of the most famous collections of API of Windows. It is used for many high-end multimedia tasks, especially for game programming and video editing. Its design enables its users, most specifically, programmers, to acquire access to hardware devices such as sound cards, video cards, network, and game peripherals such as a game controller.
If you are using Microsoft XP for your OS, then you must have DirectX 8.1 installed along with the OS. You can simply update your DirectX by downloading and installing the latest version. Why upgrade? The first reason why you should upgrade your DirectX to the newest version is because the newest version should be better and has fewer errors and bugs.
Furthermore, if you like playing games on the PC, then upgrading is a must. New released games would require you the latest version of DirectX, so that means that you have to use the latest version. You might also want to update it so that your PC’s performance could be enhanced. Some applications, like the PC games, might not function without having the latest DirectX installed.
DirectX 9 is the next version of DirectX, succeeding DirectX 8.1. It has enhanced features that will let you experience better gaming capabilities. Other applications would also run faster with DirectX 9 installed. Overall, DirectX 9 can improve your system’s performance. But there is a minor problem with DirectX 9. It doesn’t have its own uninstall method. This means that you won’t be able to uninstall it easily.
You may want to uninstall DirectX 9 in case that you have a new PC game that requires the latest version of DirectX. At present, you can now install DirectX 10. So you no longer need DirectX 9. It might also be that your DirectX 9 is not compatible with the game that you are going to play. So you will need to uninstall DirectX 9 before getting the latest version.
If you are going to uninstall DirectX 9 to install the latest version, then you would be required to clean boot your PC. To clean boot, you’ll have to do the following steps:
- Click the Start button, and choose run.
- Type msconfig and press enter. This will open the System Configuration Utility.
- Choose the Selective Startup checkbox and clear all the options under it.
- Go to the services tab and press the Hide All Microsoft Services.
- Press the Disable All button
- Click OK so that the changes will be applied.
- Exit the System Configuration Utility.
- Restart your PC. This performs the clean boot.
You may now install the latest version of DirectX either by downloading the installer or putting in the CD with the latest DirectX version.
Another way to get rid of DirectX 9 is to perform a System Restore. Performing a System restore will take your system back before any other applications were installed, including DirectX 9. You may use third party software that uninstalls DirectX 9 but most of the have errors so using one isn’t recommended. You may also want to reinstall the O.S. itself in order to delete DirectX 9 from your system.
