Whenever you notice that after your browse the internet or opened an email attachment, your computer’s speed suddenly drops, then there’s likely a possibility that you have contracted a malware. This has become a usual problem for PC users and internet users. One way to prevent your computer from getting more malware, use a reliable anti-spyware or anti-malware program which can detect malicious programs or files, and get rid of them. You can also do a full scan and ensure that your computer is safe from any malicious software.
There are steps you can follow to acquire a security program and run this program regularly and prevent malware infection on your computer.
Disconnect your computer from the Internet and Network
What you should do first is to turn your connection to the internet off. If you are on a network, turn this connection off as well.
Once you notice that your computer is experiencing something funky, or something strange is happening, disconnect from the internet at once. This will prevent more malicious programs from being downloaded by the malicious software that your computer has already downloaded. Malicious programs usually get spread when you are on a network just by sharing folders or sending e-mails. Make sure you use a security program that does all the protection work.
Once you have disconnected, install the latest security software program. Install only the updated versions, so you can keep track of up-to-date virus definitions. When you’ve already installed a security program, you may now reconnect your PC to the internet and update the software in order to complete the installation.
Afterwards, activate the security features of your antivirus security software. Make sure all the features are working. You can also add on features such as parental control and spam blocker for emails, but they may not be needed in the meantime because they do not block viruses.
Run a full system scan
After installing the security program, run a full scan on your system using your newly-updated security program. Scan all the drives on your computer as well as external drives you normally use with your computer. Your security program will show you a report after the scan has finished; review this report to ensure all folders have been checked.
If no virus is found but your system remains to be behaving weirdly, then there must be some other problem such as registry errors, program errors, and hardware malfunction. You may utilize registry cleaners and diagnostic utilities in your computer to fix these problems.
If the program detects viruses, follow the instructions given by the program to get rid of the virus infected file or program. You can heal, delete, or store/quarantine the virus infected file within a safe area. After performing the said tasks, run another scan. Keep scanning until there are no more viruses found. If you opt to delete application files which have been infected by a virus, make sure you have a backup of these files before deleting them. Or else, running the program might require you to reinstall the program completely.
Run a scan again until you do not get any errors on your PC
When you have done all the necessary actions to remove the virus, run another scan. Next important step is to backup all your important files so that they will be kept safe in case another problem arises.
Besides running a full system scan, in order to prevent malware from entering your system, allow the security program to perform regular updates. This way, you can be safe from new viruses as well. Another way to prevent any more malware problems would be not to visit suspicious sites or open e-mails from sources you are not familiar with.
Finally, besides having a security program, also acquire a registry cleaner and PC diagnostics tools so that from time to time you can ensure overall maintenance of your computer.
